Grief Healing Box Workshop

  • Jasper & Fern 469 West End Boulevard Winston-Salem, NC, 27101 United States (map)

On December 13, 2008 I experienced one of the deepest losses in my life. I was paralyzed, standing in disbelief. It was through this heart wrenching experience, I came to understand the depths of myself, the stages of grief, people, spiritual connections, and using art on a deeper level as a vehicle for healing.

For most, grief is thought to be related to the death of a loved one, but the painful truth is, it's the death or loss of anything we hold dear to our hearts. Grief is defined as "deep sorrow, especially that caused by someone's death." Grief has a multitude of synonyms: sorrow, misery, sadness, anguish, pain, distress, torment, ....the list goes on and on.

I feel there are varying levels of grief or loss. Sometimes the loss cuts us to our core, when other times the loss is felt but the pain is more superficial. Whether you're experiencing a loss so great it has shook the foundation and core of who you are, or a loss at the superficial level that alerts you to its presence; a loss is a loss and grief is grief.

Grief demands to be felt. It doesn't matter what the loss is or the level of grief you are experiencing- (a loss of a loved one, loss of employment, loss of a marriage, loss of a friendship, loss of a business partner, loss of partnership, loss of a home, loss of physical possessions, loss of health).... Right now you are experiencing a loss that brings with it a baggage, that is heavier than what most baggage claims allow. The truth is, if you don't unload that baggage, you're going to carry that with you in everything you do until you feel it, until you acknowledge its presence, and process it, because grief demands to be felt.

I've experienced a lot of loss in my lifetime. Some of them I was prepared for, others came with a blow so hard my head was spinning. What I've learned is grief is a very personal experience, one that is felt and cared for with time and in our own way. I've also learned that those around us, may not understand our process and that's OKAY. Let me repeat that... that's OKAY. Like I said, grief is a very personal experience.

Come share a gentle and safe space with me, as we explore the grief you are feeling and create a grief box that will aid you in healing. In our time together we will personalize your box to suit your needs and address the grief you are experiencing.

I will have a box, paints, papers, stamps, dried flowers and leaves, etc for you to create a healing box that is just for you. If you have a specific image you would like to place on your box, please bring it with you.

Light refreshments will be provided.

I look forward to creating with you!

Cost: $15 per person; space is limited to 10 participants
You must pre-register for this event.
To Register, call 336-608-8637

What to expect:
**When you arrive please find a seat at the table. There you will find a sheet to get you started on the days activities. While you're waiting for the workshop to begin, please fill out the sheet. The sheet is to assist you with generating creative ideas, and address your grief in a safe and honored space.

**Once everyone arrives, there will be a brief explanation of how to create your box, give you tricks and tips for completion. I will share what I have done, but will not tell you specifically how to create your box.

**After the brief explanation, I will give you the box you asked for when you registered. You will then gather your paints and supplies to create your box.

While you are creating your box, if you have an idea but don't know how to execute it, let me know and I will try to assist you.

If you are thinking, I'm not creative let me say... YES YOU ARE. I am of the belief that all of us are creative in our own way. We just need to be open, show up for ourselves, and say yes.

Did you know a few years ago I thought I wasn't creative? Thankfully, I had some angels that helped me open to my creativity and it's been flowing ever since.

I look forward to sharing this gentle creative space with you as you embark on a day of healing!
